Lately, I've been as discombobulated as a flowy dress on a windy day! From dinner going slightly awry to my shoes literally falling apart at a wedding, I had to take a step back to laugh at my attempts at maintaining a foolproof image. If you suffer from Olympian standards or your sense of self worth has ever been directly related to the outcome of your efforts, you can relate to the "Plight of the Perfectionist".
Perfectionism by definition is a personal standard, attitude, or philosophy that demands perfection and rejects anything less.
Perfectionists typically carry an impeccable reputation for being reliable, efficient and going beyond the call of duty. Yet, the one thing perfectionists find it hard to achieve is balance. Any outcome short of perfection equals failure. This type of undue pressure results in excess anxiety and strained relationships. Being snippy with people or running around like a chicken with its' head cut off isn't exactly the quality of life Christ desires for us to have.
We are called to live our lives in total dependency upon God. If self-effort has you in a tail spin, take a load off and make room for God's grace. It's time to exchange your inner critic for the grace of God which is more perfect than expectation or failure. Be still and know all things, including smudged nail polish, are working out for the good!
Tune in to Faith Rocks for 3 ways to finding peace in the midst of perfectionism.
But He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.
2 Corinthians 12:9

Sisters if you feel burdened by an unattainable standard of perfection pray this prayer.
I come to you grateful God. Grateful God that what I'm not, YOU are. Knowing God that as I rest in your arms there is no lack in YOU. Protect my thoughts father. Renew my perception of perfection Father and remind me that I serve a perfect God. Align my desires to be more like Christ and in Jesus name make me over. Make over my heart, make over my thoughts, make over my desires and make me look more like you. In your holy name, Amen
