First: What is gossiping?
Talking about a situation with somebody who is neither apart of the solution nor apart of the problem.
Second: What does God's word say about gossiping?
Proverbs 20:19 A gossip betrays a confidence, so avoid anyone who talks too much.
Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.
Proverbs 25:9-10 Argue your case with your neighbor himself, and do not reveal another's secret, lest he who hears you bring shame upon you, and your ill repute have no end.
Proverbs 17:9 He who guards his mouth and his tongue, guards his soul from troubles.
Third: WHY do we gossip?
- Because we are afraid of the 'QUIET'.
- Because we attribute OUR VALUE, to our knowledge of someone else's business.
Fourth: How do we STOP gossiping?
When we begin to see HIM clearly we begin to see ourselves through HIS eyes and we in turn become able to show others more grace, compassion, love, forgiveness because we are receivers of such grace's through Christ. When you know
With God all things are possible. (Matthew 19:26)
You begin praying for others instead of gossiping about them. You begin seeing their hurt when they hurt you. You begin spending more time thanking God for revealing things to you and for protecting you from affliction. You begin to develop compassion instead of judgement. You begin seeing God's recipe for deliverance in the midst of perceived disaster. You begin to embrace the quiet for you are no longer afraid of what it can reveal about you.
We fulfill what we were "meant to be" when God is "recognizable " in our lifestyle.' - Beth Moore
If you know a gossip or you have a proclivity to gossip yourself pray this prayer
Father God, Thank you for my ability to speak. Search me Lord for the thoughts that become words that look nothing like you. Make me over Lord with compassion for others. Help me to see them as your sons and daughters and to talk to you, and you alone, about them in prayer. Thank you God for your grace in my life. Thank you God for the revelation of your love for me. Thank you God for my desire to represent you better and thank you God that when people look at me, I will look more and more like you. In your precious name, Amen!
