Today's post is a quick read. I pray it serves as a mere reminder to use your tools! I am specifically referring to your weapon of praise and worship! MUSIC.
Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs.
Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord. Ephesians 5:19
I can tell you exactly where I was the first time I heard NAS song if 'I ruled the world'. I can tell you how I twirled in the dining room chair as my mom danced beside me as we sang 'Been around the world to night- ight ight' by Lisa Stansfield. I can also tell you how Toni Braxton was surely a gospel experience for my older sister as she went through a devastating break up. Music takes us to a special place where even if the memory isn't pleasant it seems to be memorialized through song. God is in all things good! If your heart responds to music please expect God to speak to you through that medium. He loves you and will draw near to you. Yup, once you invite HIM in to your heart through music HE will definitely create an appetite in you, a hunger to be fed in that special way in every circumstance. I encourage you to use your tools. When you don't know what to pray, sing! Put on gospel music and allow it to usher you into HIS presence. When you don't know how to comfort someone, send them the comforter. Not everyone is capable of receiving Bible scriptures but if you send a song link, it just may grab them. If you heart just feels confused, If you can't quite figure out what's missing, it's probably HIM and gospel music can remind you of HIS love and HIS declarations concerning you.
So today sisters...
- If you have a Pandora app, click on or add a Yolanda Adams and a Tasha Cobbs channel.
- If you have a friend who needs a word but he/she may not listen to a sermon or read a scripture, send them a link to a youtube worship song.
- If you are starting your day and didn't take quiet time with God in prayer, put a gospel song on, I promise it just may employ your heart to cry out to God wherever you are.
- If you don't 'like' gospel music listen to the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, it's gospel! You may have never noticed but there are so many Bible references, so many scriptures, so much beauty in those songs that it's all GOD!If you know Gods word but are having a hard time applying it to circumstance, play Gospel music as a never ending soundtrack throughout your day, I promise God will shift the atmosphere!
Sometimes we get bogged down in the formality of approaching God. Yes absolutely, go to HIM in reverence for HE IS... however we learned last week that HE is our friend and we can talk to him casually, we can cry to him in groans and utters, we can sing out hearts expectations and HE WILL comfort you, for HE is the comforter. Also, use gospel music to align yourself. You may not feel it but if you sing it, your heart will respond and God will meet you in that place of honesty and show HIMSELF worthy of your praise.
