This past
weekend I went roller-skating for the first time in several years. It was fun
but more importantly I noticed I still skate the same as I did several years
ago. Now, as you get older, it’s
nice to know you haven’t loss a step.
However, I was more concerned with WHY I still skated the same. I still
skated the same because, I hadn’t taken any RISK to learn, to grow, to get
better. I was too afraid of falling to stretch myself out of my comfort
zone.
(Please take a moment
to read the last sentence again)
I’m sure some
of you are thinking, it’s a smart decision to take it easy skating, when you
have priorities and responsibilities and I agree. But, as I watched others skate backwards I remembered the
few times I tried skating backwards; I also remembered that I never tried it
enough to be successful and finally, I wondered if I missed my opportunity to
learn how to skate backwards.
I urge you to
be beautifully honest with yourself today. There will be things sister that you
will never learn but can you live with knowing your season may pass if you are so afraid of falling that you never truly try?
There are tons and tons of scriptures about fear. There is a
link below, Just skim through some of the scriptures before you continue
reading this blog post.
I want to
encourage you out of your comfort zone today sister. Rick Warren said in a
sermon recently that ‘God is not interested in your comfort, he is interested
in your character.’ I pray your
decisions aren’t based on comfort. I pray your decisions push you daily to do
something that scares you into the Father’s arms. How would you ever know HE is
ALWAYS there if you never take the chances necessary to witness just how BIG,
HIS arms are. ALL of my greatest blessings required me to take a step towards
God even if it meant stepping away from my comfort zone.
“There is no growth in the comfort zone and no comfort in
the growth zone.’

Bishop Noel Jones
The above quote is one of my top five quotes of all time. It’s
a beautiful reminder that if I’m comfortable I’m probably not growing. However,
what I’ve learned is, even the ‘comfortable’ isn’t truly comfortable, it’s
simply familiar. I’m not willing to risk possibility to hold on to familiarity.
My prayer today sister is that you take a moment to consider every promise God
has made us.
That HE will never leave us or forsake us… Deuteronomy 31:6
That HE will make you the head and not the tail… Deuteronomy 28:13
That HIS plans are to prosper you and not to harm you… Jeremiah29:11
That HE will make a table for you in the presence of your
enemies Psalm 23:5
and simply begin to pray daily against your fears and into
your dreams. If you know a sister or perhaps it's you that needs a little less fear and more faith please pray this prayer. Father God, you alone are God, remind me daily Father that I am not, and allow me to rest in that reality. Remind me Father that Knowing, Believing and Trusting you is the answer to every fear I posses. Father in my discomfort, help me to find comfort in your promises concerning me. Help me to find pleasure in the pursuit of you and help me to live a life surrendered to your will. For in your will Father there is grace, mercy, provision, assignment and purpose. Have your way in and through me dear God as I rebuke this fear of falling, in your mighty name, AMEN!
